PROJECT UPDATE & Upcoming Work on the interCHANGE Project

LOOK… UP IN THE SKY…IT’S A BIRD, A PLANE. Yes, planes will be circling above the project as part of the law enforcement effort in the construction zone. Here’s a clue that enforcement aircraft will be on patrol sooner rather than later…the thicker, white hash marks have already been installed on the shoulders on US 33 in both directions and on Interstate 270 south.

Crews will be working tomorrow, during the day, in between rush hours, to make sure the pavement is safe and passable especially during the winter months. All work, weather permitting, should be completed in one day. To do this work, there will be some closures. (Listed below)

Final Ramp Closures of the Year; Interchange Open This Weekend

By tomorrow morning, US 33 eastbound will be able to drive over Interstate 270 into Dublin with NO DETOUR. By Saturday morning, US 33 westbound will be completely open and so will the two loop ramps that have been closed since June – I-270 SB to US 33 EB and US 33 WB to I-270 SB.

To make that open, motorists will be impacted during the overnight hours both tonight and tomorrow night.

  • 9 p.m. ramp from US 33 EB to I-270 SB closed.
  • Detour: I-270 NB to Sawmill Rd. to I-270 SB.
  • 5 a.m. the ramps will open, and there will be two lanes of US 33 EB open over Interstate 270 into Dublin.

The two ramps will not be closed simultaneously as they are detours for each other.

Friday, December 4, 2015 – I-270NB to US 33WB Ramp Closure to move barriers, install pavement markings and adjust signage.

  • 9 p.m. ramp from I-270NB to 33WB closed.

  • 9 p.m. I-270 southbound will be reduced to three lanes.

By 9 a.m. Saturday all lanes on I-270 south are open along with two lanes on US 33 westbound towards Marysville. The ramps—US 33 WB to I-270 SB and I-270 SB to US 33 EB – will be open just as they were prior to construction in June.

Christmas Comes Early for Drivers on the Northwest Side

The Ohio Department of Transportation will spread some holiday joy early this year when a major route and two ramps on the northwest side of Franklin County are opened beginning tomorrow.

By 5 a.m. tomorrow morning, US 33 eastbound traffic will be able to travel over Interstate 270 without any detours. Eastbound US 33 drivers will also be using the new one lane ramp to get to Interstate 270 south towards Tuttle Crossing. In its final configuration, that exit ramp will be two lanes.

By 5 a.m. Saturday morning, two lanes of US 33 westbound will be open along with the two loop ramps – US 33 WB to I-270 SB and I-270 SB to US 33 EB — that have been closed since June. That means drivers can travel from one side of the Dublin to the other, detour free by Saturday.

ODOT reported it would be December 11th when everything opened.

ODOT Director Jerry Wray delivered the good news while touring the project today.

Construction on the $71 million project in Dublin started in March. With the opening of US 33 and the ramps, drivers may notice nothing’s really changed in terms of lanes and ramps. That’s because the project is not finished.
There will be ramp and lane closures next year, but the good news is the duration will not be months long as was the case this year.

The interCHANGE project is set to be complete in 2017.

Ohio has experienced a record-level of construction this year, investing $2.4 billion into nearly a thousand projects. All of these projects work toward ODOT’s mission to provide the easy movement of people and goods from place to place.
